SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet Ready For Test Run in Ohio

The people of the rural Allen Township of Ohio are set to be among the first persons to enjoy the Starlink satellite’s cutting edge internet system, according to recent statements issued by state officials.

Lt. Governor Jon Husted stated that 90 household and 10 small businesses, which are currently underserved by high speed internet services, will be among the pilot program for Starlink beginning in 2021. He also added that program was in line with the DeWine-Husted administration’s commitment to ensure that more people get access to high speed internet.

Located near Marysville, Ohio about 35 miles northwest of Columbus, Allen Township has a population of around 2,200 people.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX developed the Starlink system, utilizing thousands of small satellites orbiting the earth to deliver broadband internet service. The Beta testing of the service began in November. The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has already approved the use of 12,000 satellites for the system.

According to SpaceX, the network is a constellation. The satellites have also been seen from earth orbiting in “trains.”

Recent reports have it that the residents of North America may be able to buy their internet through Starlink in 2021. According to CNBC reports, the company’s documents revealed a consumer cost of $99 monthly in addition to an initial cost of $499 for a dish receiver. However, participants in the pilot program will be getting the service without a paying a dime for 12 months, according to Husted.

The Federal Communication Commission filing has revealed that SpaceX plans another launch of 30,000 satellites for the Starlink system. The satellites will burn up in the atmosphere after one to five years, the company says, to cut down on space debris.

This past year has shown that now more than ever, access to high speed internet is an essential element for participating in the modern economy, education and health care systems,” said Lt. Governor Jon Husted. “Too many Ohioans have unreliable broadband, or no connection at all, and Governor DeWine and I are committed to finding solutions to this challenge.”

The Starlink pilot program was organized in collaboration with InnovateOhio, BroadbandOhio, the City of Marysville, economic leaders in Union County and JobsOhio.
