Messianic Church in Rock Hill, SC, Founded in Truth Fellowship, Celebrates its Reopening

One church in Rock Hill celebrates reopening its doors after being closed for almost a year. Founded in Truth Fellowship had to shut its doors this past March due to the unexpected pandemic that caused shutdowns across the nation. “Fellowship is a huge deal to us, but putting the safety above others is our highest priority” one member said. When contacted, Founded in Truth Fellowship stated they encourage all government safety recommendations including, mask-wearing, social distancing, and not attending if you are feeling unwell. They have reopened services at 1689 Springsteen Rd. Rock Hill, SC.

What is a “Messianic Church”?

Founded in Truth Fellowship is a Christian church that not only celebrates Jesus as their King, Lord, and Savior but also celebrates the Biblical festivals listed in the Old Testament. “We find immense value in keeping these Old Testament feast days because we believe they point towards Jesus. Embracing things like the Sabbath as a blessing and not a burden has been life-changing in my life as a Christian,” Jason Price, one of the community pastors at “FIT” said.

A Church that keeps the Sabbath?

Founded in Truth Fellowship doesn’t meet on Sunday mornings like so many churches here in the Bible Belt. They choose to hold services on Saturday mornings instead and also consider it as a “day of rest” as the Bible states. When we visited, we found the community tended to emphasize things like fellowship, community, and their impressive children’s program where God’s love was taught.

Did someone say FAMILY FELLOWSHIP?

Out of the 100-120 people attending the Sabbath service at Founded in Truth, at least 40% were children and youth. Many churches we have visited may have one or two children’s classes offered, while Founded in Truth boasts of five children’s classes based on age plus two youth classes. “Large families seem to feel welcome here because of the vision to pour into our children and teach them what it means to love as Jesus did”, Pete Wilson, community pastor at “FIT” said. Pete is a father of seven including an eighth making their debut this June.

Looking for a Fellowship that keeps Biblical Feasts, keeps the Sabbath, and loves Jesus?

Founded in Truth Fellowship may be worth a visit if you enjoy studying the Bible, learning about its historical importance, and want a family-friendly fellowship that follows Jesus. This church, which is also heavily involved with supporting the foster care system in South Carolina through its foster care ministry, has continued its ministry and community outreach in 2020 despite not having in-person services. With their new location in Rock Hill, they already have plans to increase community ministry outreach in 2021.

What are services like?

Founded in Truth meets for services on Saturdays at 11:00 am EST. The atmosphere is family-friendly and worship is upbeat and seems to be extremely important to the community here. “Worship directly connects the body of believers to God. It starts with humility in our hearts as we humbly approach the mighty throne of the King of kings. When we subject our goals, desires and will to His, we have no choice but to enthrone Him with our praises for He alone is worthy.” Gideon Munoz, worship pastor at Founded in Truth commented. After worship, there is a short teaching from the Torah, a section of the Old Testament followed by a blessing over the children. After the children are dismissed to classes, Pastor Matthew Vander Els typically teaches a relevant sermon that includes a passion for Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew). “Our hope is that God is using this fellowship to bring people closer to the risen Messiah. We take the weight of teaching God’s word seriously. We want to teach our children of God’s love through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Nothing else is a higher priority for us. We want to be known as a community that solely orbits the person of Yeshua,” Matthew said.
