Coleman recently traveled to numerous areas across Asia with no issue at a time when travel warnings have been issued. Now, she’s sharing her advice with others.

Allison Coleman, founder of Dream Worldtrotter, is sharing her insights at a time when major media outlets are heavily reporting on the Asian travel warnings raised by the U.S. government.

Dream Worldtrotter is a solo travel blog for women, and through her platform, Coleman shares her own extensive travels with her followers. Most recently, Coleman traveled to Bali, Indonesia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – areas that were all recently named by the U.S. as areas where Americans could face trouble while traveling. Newsweek was among the media outlets that touched base on the topic in a recent article. The same article mentioned that there has been a decrease in travelers from some European countries coming to the U.S., which Coleman believes is partially due to culture shifts.

“When I traveled across Asia, I did so with no problems at all,” said Coleman. She emphasizes that the key to safe travels is to listen to government travel warnings as well as always being aware of one’s surroundings and to respect the culture of the people who live where travelers roam. For example, Coleman witnessed and recorded a funerary ceremony in Bali. In this beautiful ceremony the entire community participated. While this isn’t the way Americans are accustomed to experiencing a funeral, Coleman stresses that it’s important to respect, honor, and observe your destination’s values and traditions as people travel.

Anyone who travels the world will undoubtedly see unique traditions, such as the festivals in Spain where tomatoes are thrown and the sky burials in Tibet. While travel warnings, such as those that were recently issued by the U.S. government, are important to take into consideration to keep people safe, Coleman reminds people to research prior to travel. “Part of traveling means immersing yourself in the culture, but it also means traveling smart. Know where you should go, and stay away from areas that aren’t on your itinerary,” said Coleman.
