Being Human With AI (BHWAI) today announced the launch of its beta version of a free, six-module curriculum designed for students in grades 5 and 6. The new hybrid program combines teacher-led discussions with interactive web-based activities, offering participants a balanced foundation in AI fundamentals, ethical decision-making, and healthy emotional boundaries when working with advanced technology. Module 1 is currently available for beta testing, with five additional modules in progress.
Being Human With AI was developed by a seasoned learning architect with two decades of experience in learning and development. The curriculum focuses on empowering children to become confident, ethical, and creative AI users, rather than passive consumers. Each module is designed to introduce key ideas about artificial intelligence, illustrate possible pitfalls of reliance on AI, and demonstrate the ways in which students can responsibly co-create with chatbots and other generative AI tools. The founder, Giselle Fuerte, who describes herself as a “chaos-killer forging AI ethics from the trenches,” created BHWAI in response to growing concerns about how children interact with technology. According to the company, nearly 70 percent of kids already use AI in their daily lives, yet 88 percent of parents do not fully understand its implications.
BHWAI’s first module, Understanding AI, covers what AI is, how it works, and the importance of recognizing AI’s ethical challenges. This segment features animated videos, interactive comics, and online games to engage students, along with a teacher’s guide and a detailed scope and sequence to support educators and parents. Future modules will cover topics such as AI bias, healthy usage habits, and the responsibilities of creators and users. Each lesson is designed to fit within 60 to 90 minutes of learning time, making it flexible for classrooms, after-school programs, and homeschooling environments.
Fuerte expresses excitement about inviting beta testers to help shape the curriculum. She explains that early participants have offered positive feedback, noting the curriculum’s effective blend of fun and depth. She states, “AI’s chaos is here, and kids need guidance. I’ve mastered healthy AI collaboration using 20 years of learning development to create BHWAI, a free fix. I am thrilled to see learners shape this revolution.” Parents and educators share similar sentiments, praising the interactive format and the emphasis on teaching ethics and creativity. BHWAI is uniquely positioned to address concerns related to plagiarism, over-reliance on chatbot prompts, and the potential for AI-driven engagement traps.
As a free online curriculum, BHWAI is accessible to anyone seeking to introduce AI in a meaningful way. It includes real-world examples of AI’s successes and limitations, encouraging students to ask questions and develop critical thinking skills around the latest tools and technologies. The course creators believe that by equipping students with a thorough understanding of AI’s capabilities and ethical dimensions, the next generation will be better prepared to navigate the complexities of a technology-driven future.
