New Galvanized Steel Pipe Series Officially Launched, Targeting Corrosive Environments and Structural Safety

After nearly two years of process optimisation and trial production, a steel pipe manufacturer has announced that its new generation of hot‑dip galvanised steel pipes has entered regular supply. This series shows clear improvements over the previous production line in coating adhesion, dimensional accuracy, and impact resistance. It is primarily aimed at municipal water supply and drainage, photovoltaic and agricultural facilities, industrial safety barriers, and power and telecommunication poles and towers.

According to the company’s technical department, the core of this upgrade lies in the redesigned pre‑treatment process and precise control of dipping parameters. The new line uses multi‑stage pre‑cleaning and an adjusted flux formulation, which allows the molten zinc to form a more complete alloy reaction layer with the steel substrate. The coating thickness is more uniform, especially at pipe ends and on inner walls, where coverage has been notably improved. Subsequent bending and flattening tests showed no peeling or flaking of the coating, which reduces the need for touch‑up work for projects requiring on‑site threading and welding.

In terms of corrosion resistance, the company conducted comparative exposure tests between the new product, its previous version, and commonly available electro‑galvanised pipes. In accelerated ageing tests simulating coastal high‑salt‑spray conditions and industrial acid‑rain environments, the new product exhibited significantly delayed red‑rust formation and much less wall thickness reduction. This characteristic is particularly valuable for buried pipelines and support structures in humid environments, where a long service life is required.

On dimensional precision, the production line has been equipped with in‑line laser diameter gauges and wall‑thickness scanning devices, which inspect every length of pipe to ensure that deviations in outer diameter, ovality, and straightness meet internationally accepted piping connection standards. User feedback indicates that threaded connections are tighter and the first‑pass acceptance rate for press‑fit joints has improved markedly, reducing rework time at installation sites.

On the application side, the technical team has outlined several typical use cases:

  • In municipal water supply renovation projects, the smooth inner zinc coating helps reduce flow resistance and minimise biofilm attachment. When combined with cathodic protection, the design life can match the urban network renewal cycle.

  • For photovoltaic power stations and greenhouse frames, the pipes must withstand wind and snow loads as well as exposure to pesticides, fertilisers, and UV radiation. The new product’s coating weatherability has been enhanced, and the surface is free of zinc lumps and burrs, which simplifies subsequent clamping and bolting.

  • In factory workshops and mine tunnels, used as handrails, ladders, and platform support posts, the pipe’s low‑temperature impact toughness has been verified. Even when welded in sub‑zero conditions, no cracking occurred in the weld zones.

  • In telecom base stations and power lines, the good electrical conductivity of the galvanised layer allows the pipe to serve as a grounding down conductor and equipment support, simplifying grounding system construction.

The company has also released a new edition of the “Selection and Installation Guide for Galvanised Steel Pipes,” which provides specific recommendations on coating thickness selection for different corrosion levels, welding parameters, and on‑site repair methods. In addition, customers can arrange for technical engineers to visit project sites for corrosion‑environment assessments and to provide custom cut‑to‑length services as needed.

On the environmental front, the production line is equipped with acid‑fume recovery and zinc‑dust filtration systems. Wastewater is treated and recycled, and overall energy consumption has been reduced compared with the older line. The pipes themselves are fully recyclable at the end of their service life, in line with current green‑building circular‑economy requirements.

At present, the series has been trialled in multiple major projects across the country and has passed type tests by third‑party inspection bodies, meeting current national standards as well as relevant ASTM and ISO specifications. The company stated that it will flexibly arrange production and logistics according to project scale and delivery schedules, and will offer stock‑holding programmes for long‑term partners.
